The Arkansas Cattlemen’s Foundation, Inc. has announced plans to award the 2015 Young-Baker Scholarships ($2,000). To qualify for an award, applicants must:
A) Fill out required forms (do not send reference letters)
B) Be an Arkansas Resident
C) Be a full-time college student classified as a junior or senior with at least 60 hours credit completed by the end of the spring 2015 semester.
D) Have a college grade point average of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale
E) Be planning a career in or related to the cattle industry.
Five scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement, individual character, career plans and leadership potential. Preference may be given to children and grandchildren of Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association members. The recipient will be notified in writing and payment will be made directly to the college the student is attending. The $2,000 scholarship will be awarded in two installments of $1,000 per semester.
Howard Young and Frank Baker were instrumental in establishing the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Foundation Inc. and securing a home the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association and a learning center for the youth of Arkansas. Young, as Executive Vice President of the ACA, provided the roots for continued growth of the association. The late Dr. Baker provided professional input that helped create the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Foundation Learning and Heritage Center. Both Young and Baker worked closely together for the benefit of Arkansas Cattlemen.
