Scholarship Rules and Regulation

  1. ​The name of the scholarship shall be the Pasadena Strawberry Festival Scholarship.
  2. Recipients will be selected from graduating seniors of each of the following high schools:
    • South Houston High School, Dobie High School, Sam Rayburn High School, Tegeler Career Center, Pasadena High School, Pasadena Memorial High School, Lewis Career & Technology Center Deer Park High School, La Porte High School, and returning students in San Jacinto College - North Central & South Campuses, & University of Houston Clear Lake.
    • Consideration will be given to private & homeschooled applicants within the school district listed above.
    • Current Volunteers of the Festival with 20 or more Service Hours and graduating from High School or attending a Selected College.
  3. One scholarship will be presented to the winner of the  Pasadena Strawberry Festival Beauty Pageant. A check will be sent to the College of their choice.
  4. The amount of the scholarship will be $1500 each. The scholarship funds will be used for tuition and books. A check will be sent to a College of their choice.
  5. Eligibility:
    • High school recipients must have graduated from one of the high schools named above with a ‘B’ average (3.0 G.P.A.) during the year the scholarship is awarded.
    • College-level recipients must show proof of a 3.0 G.P.A., excluding remedial courses.
    • All recipients must be full-time students who complete 12 semester hours with a G.P.A. of 3.0.
    • All College recipients are eligible for 1 additional scholarship.
  6. Requirements for application:
    • All candidates must be a US Citizen.
    • The candidate must file an application for the scholarship by the DEADLINE DATE on the application.
    • The applicant must present an Official transcript of completed high school or college work as appropriate to his/her classification.
    • The applicant must attach a typed essay (not less than 500 words) on the Battle of San Jacinto History or the History of the Pasadena Strawberry Festival.
    • The applicant must attach a short typed essay (no more than 100 words) or a two-minute thumb drive on why you should be awarded this scholarship.
  7. Criteria for selection:
    • Applicant must be a full-time student in designated high schools or colleges at the time this application is made.
    • Applicant must show proof of a ‘B’ average (3.0 G.P.A.), by way of an official transcript.
    • Students must demonstrate interest and participation in cultural, academic, or charitable organizations.
    • All criteria being equal, need may dictate the recipient of the scholarship.
  8. Scholarship funds will be payable to the college where recipient will be attending in the recipient’s name.
