BACKGROUND:

The Kelling-Tomlinson Scholarship is designed to share a gift of wealth with the next generation as a thank you for what the community has done and shared with the family. The Kelling/Tomlinson families were homesteaders to Smith County and want to give the next generation of decision makers opportunities to succeed as well.

AMOUNT:

Two $1,000 renewable scholarships will be awarded to: (1) a student meeting the following criteria who will attend a private, 4-year college (renewable for up to 4 years) and (2) a student meeting the following criteria that will attend a vocational educational or technical school (renewable for up to 2 years).

GEOGRAPHIC LIMITATIONS:

Students graduating from Smith Center High School

CRITERIA:

A) Applicants must be in good standing qualifying for graduation from Smith Center High School.

B) Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

C) Applicants must be involved in extracurricular activities.

D) Preference will be given to students not finishing in the top two places in the graduating class.

E) One scholarship will be awarded to a student attending a private, 4-year college (renewable for up to 4 years) and one scholarship will be awarded to a student attending a vocational educational or technical school (renewable for up to 2 years).

F) All merit criteria being the same, awards will be based on need.

DEADLINE:

March 1

RENEWALS:

Scholarship recipients are eligible to apply for renewal by meeting the following criteria:

A) Applicants must remain in good standing at any accredited post secondary school.

B) Transcript and letter requesting renewal must be received by GSCF by June 1 for the fall semester.

C) Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.

D) Students must be full-time.
