Huron University College was incorporated in 1863 as Huron College. It original name was Huron College, although it changed to its present name in June 2000. It was founded by Bishop Benjamin Cronyn and started as a theological college. It evolved into a theological and liberal arts university institution over the next 100 years. Campus: Facilities, Residence and Location

Huron is next to the University of Western Ontario campus in North London. It can be accessed by using the London Transit buses, which provides easy reach to downtown parks, shopping malls, dining areas, theatres, and parks. The campus offers students housing accommodation, and it guarantees all first year students a slot in the rooms if they meet the requirements before the deadline.

National Scholarship holders are given the privilege of choosing which building and room they want to stay in. Some of the residences to choose from include: Benson House (Upper Year), house-type; Henderson House (Upper Year), house-type; Cronyn House (Upper Year), house-type; Hellmuth Hall, dormitory; O'Neil/Ridley, dormitory; Southwest Residence, suites; Yellow Cottage (Upper Year), house-type; and the Young House (Upper Year), house-type. Amenities in the room include: Bed Frame And Mattress (Single), Desk And Chair, Closet Or Wardrobe, Dresser Or Mate's Bed With Drawers, Wastebasket, Corkboard, Bookshelves Or Wall Shelving, Mirror, and Drapes or Blinds.

Student Services and Student Life

Huron University offers the following services to students: Career Counselling, Chaplaincy, Writing Skills Centre, Academic Counselling, Huron Library, Student Computing, and Student Support Services at UWO (Career services, Volunteer opportunities, Support for students with disabilities, International student services, Learning skills services, First Nations services, and Psychological Counselling).

Huron University College Students' Council (HUCSC) is an organization that helps students participate and run various events, clubs, and programs. With an annual budget of $80,000, the council is run by students to create fun events, parties, leadership opportunities, and student clubs. Students who want to join its leadership programs can run for the following positions: Students' Council, Dam the Stress Mentors, Promotions Crew, and other various committees, such as Formal Committee, Fashion Show Committee, and Charities. Some of its services include: Clubs -- French Club, Huron Underground Dramatic Society, Huron Literary Society, Sandwich Club, SAMAJ Cultural Club, GLOBE, Golf Club JAM (Just About Music), History Club, and Huron Heat (Dance Club); Athletic Programs, Student Activity Centre with Beaver Dam Bar, Orientation Weeks (in September and January), Yearbooks, Huron Clothing, Dam the Stress Peer-Mentorship, Tutoring Services, Grapevine Newspaper, HUCSC Events, Promotions Crew, and Social Issue Awareness Campaigns.

Student-athletes can choose from among many recreation programs available inside the campus. They include: Intramural Sports, Fitness/Wellness Programs, and Aquatics. Students also access the University of Western Ontario (UWO) facilities, such as the Weight Room, Gymnasium, Aerobics Classes, Fitness Facilities, Pool, Racquetball, and Squash Courts.

The UWO has completed a new $34 million Recreation facility that is linked to the Thompson Recreation and Athletic Centre. Amenities include: Five Gymnasiums, Three Dance/Multipurpose Studios, 50-Metre Swimming Pool, Expanded Fitness And Weight Training Facilities, Recreational Squash Courts, Locker Rooms, and Administrative Offices.

Academic Programs

The University has the Faculty of Arts and Social Science and Faculty of Theology. Huron offers more that 70 undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate, and other non-degree programs to students.

The recent Maclean's Magazine University Report rated Huron as having the best ranking for student satisfaction among senior students.
