There are three campuses in the University: Nunatta Campus (Iqaluit), Kivalliq (Rankin Inlet), and Kitikmeot Campus (Cambridge Bay). It has 24 Community Learning Centres: Arctic Bay, Kimmirut, Arviat, Kugaaruk, Baker Lake, Kugluktuk, Cambridge Bay, Pangnirtung, Cape Dorset, Pond Inlet, Chesterfield Inlet, Qikiqtarjuaq, Clyde River, Rankin Inlet, Coral Harbour, Repulse Bay,Gjoa Haven, Resolute Bay, Grise Fiord, Sanikiluaq, Hall Beach, Talojoak, Igloolik, Whale Cove, and Iqaluit.
The college also forms partnerships with other universities. They include: Nunavut Teacher Education Program (NTEP) with the University of Regina, Nursing Program with Dalhousie University, Language and Traditional Knowledge with University of Manitoba, Human Resources with University of Manitoba, Translation with McGill University, BA with Carleton University, and Law with University of Victoria. Full-time students who want to live inside the campus can avail of housing accommodations inside the Nunatta, Kivalliq, and Kitikmeot Campuses.
The majority of the library collection is in the Nunatta Campus Library, and other materials are for loan in the Kitikmeot and Kivalliq Campus Libraries. Students who want to access more resources beyond the university’s collections can also request for an inter-library loan outside the college community. Students and staff do not pay any fees for the service.
The Nunavat Arctic College offers the following programs to students: Academic Studies (Adult Basic Education, Pre-Employment Program, College Foundations, and Life Skills), Business (Office Administration, Management Studies, Management Studies - Community Economic Development Concentration, Management Studies - Public Administration Concentration, Management Studies - Business Administration, and Management Studies - Financial Management Diploma Concentration), Computer Technology (Computer Systems Technician Program), Education (Early Childhood Education, Nunavut Teacher Education Program), Environmental Technology (Environmental Technology), Fine Arts (Jewellery and Metalwork, Fur Design and Production), Health and Wellness (Human Services, Maternity Care Worker, Mental Health Diploma, Nursing, Community Therapy Assistant Program), Language and Culture (Interpreter Translator, Inuit Studies), Trades and Occupations (CARS: Observer/Communicator Program, Camp Cook, Apprenticeship Carpentry, Hairstylist, Housing Maintainer [Apprenticeship Program], Pre-Trades Preparation, Small Motor Repair, Introductory Mine Training).
There are also customized trainings developed for the needs of independent learners, their employers and their communities. They work closely with the Regional Campuses to deliver new contracts for training and development programs. Some of the training programs that are offered at the campus or Community Learning Centres include: The Municipal Government Program - a certificate program customized for municipal employees across Nunavut Arctic College; pre-trades programs and trades related training to prepare Nunavummiut for entry into a variety of trades; the Mental Health Diploma Program - a two year program to prepare graduates to work as professionals in the wellness and mental health fields and the Fisheries training with the assistance of the Marine Institute in Newfoundland.
Financial assistance is given to qualified students through the Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC), different regional Inuit Organizations in Canada, and the Financial Assistance for Nunavat Students (FANS). Students who want financial aid should take the initiative to request for funding.
Nunavut is a predominantly Inuit hamlet located on the western shore of Hudson Bay in the Kivalliq Region of Nunavut, Canada. It is the southernmost community on the Nunavut mainland and is close to the geographical centre of Canada. Arviat is a traditional Inuit community, having the third largest population in Nunavut, behind Rankin Inlet and the Capital, Iqaluit.
Arviat is well known around the Arctic for its artistic qualities. Many musicians are from Arviat and this is a striving community with many talented musicians. Susan Aglukark is a well known musician. Simon "Johnny Cash of the North" Sigyariaq; Uniaqtuq, with Arsene, Pelagie and Mary Angalik; the Arviat Band, with John and Billy Kuksuk, Paul Kattau and others; the Irksuk band, played by Paul Irksuk and Sons; all have had CDs recorded commercially.
