Campus: Facilities, Residence and Location

The University is comprised of four campuses, with individual focus of expertise. The biggest campus is the City Centre Campus, which is located near downtown Edmonton. City Centre also contains the largest degree program offerings to students as well as the Robbins Health Learning Centre, which opened in 2007. Also included here are the Centre for Sport and Wellness (home to a gymnasium and a pool), a parkade, and the MacEwan Residence. Other campuses are near the vicinity of Mill Woods (South Campus) and West Jasper Place (Centre for the Arts). The University has four faculties/schools: The School of Business, Faculty of Health and Community Studies, Faculty of Arts and Science, and the Centre for the Arts and Communications. At present, it offers applied degrees that can be taken for one to two years, certificates, diplomas, and four-year bachelor degrees.

MacEwan’s varsity sports team is known as the Griffins. They also are one of the competing teams in the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference. Some of their sports include: Dance, Cross-Country, Soccer, Volleyball, Hockey, and Basketball. Students who are into fitness can go to the MacEwan Centre for Sport and Wellness, which is a state-of-the-art industry facility that includes volleyball, badminton, and basketball courts. The centre also has a fitness area, squash, aquatic centre, and racquetball courts.

Academic Programs

MacEwan offers the following current degree courses in these areas: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Child and Youth Care, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Off-Campus Living

MacEwan offers it services to students who want to live outside the campus. The Housing Registry is a database of all the available listings all across Edmonton, and it includes housing, roommate, and apartment information for students.

Edmonton Information

Edmonton is the capital of the province of Alberta. The City of Edmonton covers an area larger than Chicago, Philadelphia, Toronto or Montreal. Edmonton has one of the lowest population densities in North America. In addition, Edmonton's river valley is 22 times larger than New York City's Central Park. The public river valley parks provide a unique urban escape area with park styles ranging from fully serviced urban parks to campsite-like facilities with few amenities.

Edmonton has a northern continental climate with extreme seasonal temperatures, although the city has milder winters than either Regina or Winnipeg, which are both located at a more southerly latitude. It has mild summers and chilly winters, with the average daily temperatures ranging from -11.7°C in January to 21°C in July.
