Campus: Facilities, Residence and Location

JIBC has six campuses: New Westminster, Maple Ridge, Victoria, Okanagan, Chilliwack, and Vancouver. New Westminster is the main campus, which covers around 170,000 square feet. It includes the media centre, indoor firearms range, fitness rooms, locker rooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, 200-seat theatre, library, classroom block, and office block. The campus features a central garden and a large atrium that connects the library, cafeteria, classrooms, and offices. Wireless internet is also available in the courtyard, library, theatre, cafeteria, and atrium. Maple Ridge Campus is designed for hands-on fire fighting practice and training delivered by the Fire and Safety Division. It has a one-of-a-kind simulation training props that include a three-storey concrete burn building that is regularly used for firefighters to practice what they have learned in real-life situations. Victoria Campus serves its Vancouver Island learners and clients, and its classrooms are available for rental. Okanagan Campus is located in the former L'anse-au-sable elementary school in Central Kelowna and serves as a regional training centre for the Okanagan. Chilliwack Campus is the home of the satellite training facility of the Paramedic Academy and is the regional training centre for the Fraser Valley. Vancouver Campus belongs to the “Great Northern Way Campus,” a collaboration of different post-secondary institutions. Several of its facilities include a 48-seat conference room, two 24-seat classrooms, and a 36-seat classroom. It also has free wireless internet access available for students.

Notable Accomplishments

JIBC is ISO certified, which recognizes the school’s commitment to a learner-centered, quality-driven improvement towards education. In 2006, it was recognized for its efforts to carry out the strategic educational technology plans by the B.C.’s Educational Technology Users Group. In 2005, it received a BC Export Award, a Crime Prevention and Community Safety Award (2005) and a first place at the 2005 Rejviz Rally, an international integrated rescue medical competition that is annually held in the Jesenik Mountains, Czech Republic. Some of the participants of the said event were: Canada, the US, Israel, Greece, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Japan, Poland, and the Netherlands.
