Campus: Facilities, Residence and Location

Northwest Community College has entered into a relationship with the Nisga'a Wilp Wilxo'oskwhl Nisga'a (“Nisga'a House of Learning”) in order to promote the residents of the Nass Valley region to acquire a post-secondary education. It also offers residence housing to students on the Terrace campus. Aside from living in an environment that allows the students to learn, live, and grow as individuals, they also have a strong support system where they can thrive in their academic and personal environment. The residence building has five two-storey residence buildings on campus. Each floor has washroom with showers, and “a lounge with TV/DVD and phone; a kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave, and washer/dryer. Residents have access to free wireless internet. Each room is equipped with a bed, study desk, dresser and closet, for each occupant.” There are also small portions of suites for females who want to live in dormitories. The suites contain private living room areas.

Student Services and Student Life

The College offers student support services, which include: STUDENT SERVICES [Educational Advisors, Learning Assistance Specialists, Learning Assistance Specialists, First Nations Student Access Coordinators, Accessibility Services Coordinators], STUDENT SERVICES [Educational Advising, Access for First Nations Students, Student Success and Learning Assistance, Assessment and Application, First Support Checks, Subsequent Support Checks]; and SERVICES FOR STUDENTS' WITH DISABILITIES [Accommodation, Equipment, Student Assistants, Orientation and Pre-registration Assistance, Physical Accessibility, and Program Support].

NWCC supports and welcomes its Aboriginal students by creating an environment that is based on respect. Today, around 44 percent of its students are Aboriginal students , making it the college with the largest number of Aboriginal students of any BC college.

Academic Programs

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Students who want to get an entrance scholarship should meet the following requirements: (1) A minimum GPA of 3.00 on all grade 11 and 12 courses shown on the B.C. secondary school transcript; (2) Applicants are expected to graduate from grade 12 in the year that they enter the college. A deferral of up to one year may be requested; (3)Applicants must apply to and enroll in a full-time (100%) post-secondary course load at NWCC.

Terrace Information

Terrace is a service community on the Skeena River in British Columbia, Canada. Terrace, the regional business centre for the area, is located approximately 550 air miles northwest of Vancouver. The City is located on a series of natural flat benches, or terraces within the broad Skeena River Valley.

Terrace's economic and lifestyle advantages are attracting a growing population. Terrace is surrounded by natural beauty. Affordable housing, diversified health care and education services, and a wide range of recreational pursuits, (including natural Hotsprings, ski hill, 18-hole golf course, world-class fishing, lakes and nature trails, art gallery, Heritage Park Museum) all within close proximity, have sealed the location decisions of many new residents and businesses.

Terrace's economic advantage lies in its location. It is strategically placed at the geographic centre of Northwest B.C., and is the hub for highway, rail and air transportation routes. As a result, the City is the location for many of the region's business, retail, medical and government services.
