Camosun College is located in Victoria, British Columbia. It was established in 1971 and adopted the name “Camosun,” which is a local Lekwungan (Songhees) First Nation name that means “where different waters meet and are transformed.” Today, its two campuses serve around 13,000 students registered in degrees, certificate programs, and diplomas. About Camosun College

Campus: Facilities, Residence and Location

The college is home to the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence, a 117,570 square foot centre that accommodates 20,000 students. It has two campuses: Landsowne and Interurban. Lansdowne is situated on Foul Bay Roads and Landsowne, with a majestic view of the Olympic mountains and Victoria. It facilities include the Alan Batey Library, which opened in 1991. The Dental Health Education Centre is opposite the Library, with its newest facility on campus is Wilna Thomas Building adjoining Cultural Centre. The Isabel Dawson building includes the services for students, such as Information and Registration, Career Resource Centre, Counselling, Disability Support Services, Academic Advising, and Financial Aid. The Fisher building has the bookstore and cafeteria; Paul Building and Richmond House provide additional space for classrooms; Dunlop House is a good setting for the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program that is being operated by the students. Interurban campus is located in Saanich, with a rural country-style setting atmosphere. It is only a 15-minute drive from downtown, and conveniently close to Interurban Road.

The Campus Centre is the point of entry for people who are looking for information about the the college’s programs and services. Also included here are the Fitness Centre, Library, Bookstore, Student And Alumni And Employment Services, Counselling, Academic Advising, and the Career Resource Centre. At the heart of the campus is the Helmut Huber Cook Training Centre, where the campus community gets reasonably-priced lunch and breakfast. The northern side includes the Jack White and John Drysdale buildings, Technology Centre, and the Centre for Business and Access. Behind the campus sits the new Vancouver Island Technology Park, which provides an easy access for the students and faculty of Camosun to enter into partnerships with the research projects and local industry. Another facility that was recently completed in September 2008 is the Pacific Sport Institute, a centre for academic and athletic excellence. It is a unique partnership between Camosun College and Pacific Sport Victoria.
