The City of Vancouver is about 264 miles or 425 km away to the west.

The town of Summerland has been designed as a theme town in an olde English Tudor style. The majority of the businesses within the town of Summerland are situated up on the hill even though Old Summerland is considered to be the area down on the water.

Fruit orchards supply the majority of the towns overall economy, and is only rivaled by the larger City of Kelowna as the largest processor and producer of fruit within the Okanagan region. There are world renowned Eden-like orchards and farms, wineries and many heritage ranches, giving the town a rustic atmosphere.

The name "Summerland" brings with it images of bright blue skies, warm beaches and friendly, smiling people. The town definitely lives up to its name and has a lot more to offer.

Summerland has become a famous getaway for those who live in the 3 major Canadian cities of Calgary, Vancouver and Edmonton. It offers an idyllic place to visit with its sandy beaches and how wonderfully it is located on Okanagan Lake. Tourist attractions and tourism used to be the major business, although this is fast disappearing due to pressure from developers of residential subdivisions.

Agriculture along with canneries have traditionally been the mainstays of the economies, featuring the various fresh fruit trees such as pears, cherries, apples and peaches. The focus ultimately moved from the focus on fruit trees to more grape production for the wine trade. The town of Summerland is now proudly home to several world renowned wineries. The town of Summerland is also home to the historic Kettle Valley Steam Railway and has numerous golf courses.

Due to the dry and arid climate, the Okanagan area has become a popular area to make wine. Within the town of Summerland, there are 6 wineries to experience. They provide special events throughout the Spring and Fall Okanagan Wine Festivals and self-guided wine tours are likewise highly suggested.
