Frisco, Texas is a popular city situated in Denton and Collin Counties in the state of Texas. This rich city is considered a part of the fast developing suburb of Dallas. Based on statistics in 2010, 116,989 residents were residing within the city of Frisco. This was a dramatic increase from the 33,714 individuals counted during the previous census. This increase made the city of Frisco the fastest growing city within the United States during 2009 as well as being the fastest growing city within the nation for the years of 2000-2009.

When the suburban development tide hit the northern Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex during the late 1990's, expanding into Frisco. This created growth that was felt in the 2000's. Frisco has the reputation of becoming a bedroom township for numerous professionals who in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. This is similar to various cities situated in the northern Dallas suburbs.

The city has been designated "Tree City USA" ever since 2003. This title is granted by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The city of Frisco received the National Arbor Day Foundation Growth Award during 2007 for the 3rd year in a row. This award encourages a higher level of tree care and tree preservation within the community and likewise recognizes the environmental enhancement within the community too. During 2007, Forbes Magazine published a study naming the city of Frisco the 7th fastest growing suburb in the United States.

The first inhabitants within the area arriving by way of the Shawnee Trail, a trail that was common for cattle drives which ran through the community of Lebanon. This region eventually became part of Frisco. In 1902, the St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad arrived and a community sprang up near the train station. The newly constructed community was called Frisco in tribute to the Railroad. As the cattle drives declined, inhabitants moved from the trail regions and chose to settle nearer the railroad and relocated within Frisco close to the railroad and the center of activity it created.

The city of Frisco is accumulating a large number of retail opportunities similar to various Dallas suburbs. In the year 2005, IKEA opened with 310,000 square feet. During August 2000, a 165 store regional mall referred to as Stonebriar Centre opened too. There are an abundance of restaurant chains and retail establishments lining Preston Road which is among the major north-south traffic arteries running through the city.

Frisco's local government opted a much different economic plan to those of its neighboring cities. Like for example, the city of Frisco opted to use a fractional percent of local sales tax to be able to fund the Frisco Economic Development Corporation. They instead chose the regional transportation body referred to as DART. The effectiveness of FEDC is a matter of public discussion. Their main purpose is to reallocate tax dollars to commercial ventures amongst other things.

The multi-use development called Frisco Square is being built and would eventually become the new downtown. The square consists of 7 restaurants, roughly 250 rental residential units, a few personal service locations and 3,700m2 or 40,000 square feet of commercial office space. The new City Hall, a public common area and the main library are part of the major development in the project. In the year 2010, a Cinemark theatre likewise opened. A new hospital north of the Cinemark is also under construction.
