The city of Kitchener is a vibrant community based in the business and industrial based cosmopolitan region of Waterloo within southwestern Ontario, Canada. German Mennonite farmers recognized the city as a German Company Tract. These farmers fled to the Upper Canada region in pursuit of religious freedom after the American Revolutionary War.

Because of its proximity to the glacial topography on the landscape and the Grand River, Kitchener has also a number of scenic and natural attractions which it can offer to its tourists. Its most frequented natural tourist attractions comprise the Victoria, McLennan, and Kiwanis Parks; Bingemans, a two hundred-acre scenic camping resort situated along the Grand River; Chicopee Ski Club, the ski and snowboard centre of Ontario; Chicopee Tube Park; and Grand Valley Trails, an extensive trail system which is spread all around hundreds of kilometers.

Different cultural places of interest in Kitchener city comprise the international arts festival held by the Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area (or likewise known as CAFKA); the adventurous and innovative Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound; the IMPACT theatre festival, a worldwide theater festival that features shows from all around the globe; the Multicultural Festival, a summer festival which commends ethnic diversity; and the Expressions of Social Justice Festival, which aims to bring to light problems in social justice through film.

The economy of the city has been historically based in the trade of manufacturing. At present, this trend still remains as the automotive industry is the top industry in the area. Education and knowledge creation cluster ranks as the second strongest industry within the city, dominated by the two universities within the Conestoga College and the Kitchener-Waterloo area. This trend is estimated to continue with the opening of the University of Waterloo's School of Pharmacy on King Street.

There are four municipal business parks within the city, comprising the Grand River West Business Park, the Huron Business Park, Bridgeport Business Park, and the Lancaster Corporate Centre. These parks supply significant contributions to the local economies. However, the current revival of "Centre Block", the city's downtown is intended to attract businesses to be able to invest within Kitchener city and provide economic diversity.
