The beginning of Kamloops date back to the Secwepemc (Shuswap) nation of the Interior Salish language group, who were actually the very first people of the place. The first explorers from Europe came during 1811, when David Stuart was sent from Fort Astoria. The term "Kamloops" is the anglicized version of the Shuswap word, "Tk'emlups," which translates to "meeting of the waters." One more possible origin of the name comes from the French "Camp des loups" that translates to 'Camp of Wolves', likely spoken by fur traders.

For the several Kamloops residents, the BC Festival of the Arts Legacy Fund helps to assist the numerous areas of interdisciplinary arts, visual, media, literary, and performing arts in their competition, development, and presentation.
