The city of Kansas is the third largest city within Kansas State. Kansas City is the county seat of Wyandotte County, the city is additionally the third largest suburb of Kansas City, in Missouri. Google said during March of 2011 that Kansas City had been chosen as the selected location of a trial fiber-optic network which Google would build at no cost to Kansas City. From a field of 1100 communities within the USA which had applied for the network, Kansas City was selected. Google intends to have the network operating by 2012. The city of Kansas is home to numerous buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kansas City within the city is located here and covers about 12,500 square miles in the eastern part of the state.

In downtown Kansas City, Kansas, there is a 3,500 seat indoor auditorium and arena called Memorial Hall. This venue offers a stage that is permanent and is used for public assemblies, concerts and sporting events.
