The American Galvanizers Associations (AGA) Galvanize the Future: A Richard L. Brooks Memorial Scholarship essay contest was developed to assist future specifiers with the rising cost of a college education. The scholarship is available to full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in an accredited college or university in North America studying architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, material science, or a related field.
Two scholarships are awarded annually ($2,500 each) for the top essays submitted. The entry deadline for next year's competition will close March 31st, 2026 and winners will be announced May of 2026.
1. Who is eligible?
Any full- or part-time, undergraduate or graduate student of any age enrolled at an accredited college or university only in North America, during the 2024-2025 school year. High school students are not eligible to enter this contest. Qualifying majors include architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, material science, or other related field.
2. What is the award amounts?

3. How long should entries be?
Essays should be at least 1000 words, but should not exceed 2000 words.
4. What style is most appropriate?
Judges will evaluate submissions based on relevance, accuracy, conciseness, and ingenuity. Please submit your essays in English.
5. How will essays be judged?
Each essay will be read and ranked by reviewers at the AGA. Final awards will be determined by the AGAs Executive Director.
6. Where do I start?
The AGA website provides a wealth of no-cost resources on hot-dip galvanizing information, including access to the current publications, the AGA KnowledgeBase, technical information resource CDs, and a variety of industry links.
7. When is the entry deadline?
The deadline is March 31st of the given year.
8. How do I submit my entry?
Submit your essay by filling out the submission form on the application page. You will receive an email confirmation your entry has been received. Please use our contact form for all questions. No phone calls please.
9. How many times can I enter the contest?
One entry will be accepted per student per year.
10. What about the winners?
Winners will be personally notified and announced on the AGA website in May 2026. The scholarship will be paid directly to the winning students educational institution. All submissions become the property of the American Galvanizers Association and will not be returned. Winning essays become the property of the American Galvanizers Association which will cooperate fully with the authors in the republication of essays.
