This award recognizes up to six Indigenous students for their creative writing talent. Each recipient receives a $2,500 award.
Who is eligible
You must:
A) Submit a creative writing piece that is completely original (a short story, poem, essay, play or song)
B) Be 18 years old or younger
C) Self-identify as an Indigenous person
D) Attend a school in Ontario
E) Be a resident of Ontario
How to apply
You need to submit a form with your information that includes:
A) Your original creative writing piece
B) A brief description of the writing piece and what inspired you
C) Contact information for your parent/guardian and school representative
Submission deadline
The deadline is May 31 each year. The 2021 deadline has been extended until June 30.
If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, you can submit your nomination before 5 p.m. the next business day. If your nomination is received after the deadline, it will be considered for next year's award.
Selection process
An independent selection committee of individuals from Indigenous communities reviews each submission and recommends who should receive the award.
Award presentation
The awards are presented at a ceremony at Queen's Park. Each recipient receives a $2,500 award.
