The Lillian and Arthur Dunn Scholarship, in the amount of $2,500, is awarded for up to four years to two children or stepchildren of dues-paying DAR members. Renewal is conditional upon maintenance of a GPA of 3.25. Outstanding recipients pursuing graduate study may reapply each year for an additional period of up to four years of study. The DAR member number of the mother, who is a current-dues paying member, must be included with the application.
Application Requirements
Applicants must be citizens of the United States to apply for one of the national scholarships offered by the DAR Scholarship Committee. Applicants must also attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States. DAR chapter sponsorship is not required, however, applicants may want to reach out to a DAR chapter in their area for help with their applications.
Important Information
- Applicants should submit their scholarship applications using the DAR's online process from November 1 through January 31 at 11:59 pm (Hawaii Time).
- Access the DAR Scholarship Committee's scholarship application portal online.
- The scholarship application portal is not to be used when applying for the the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contests or state or chapter level scholarships.
Tips for Organizing and Preparing an Online Scholarship Application
Applicants should review the following information and use the application checklist (below) to organize and prepare their online scholarship application:
- Enter and upload all of the required scholarship application information using the online application process (eg. personal statement, transcripts, activities, proof of citizenship).
- Please do not submit personal photographs. Inclusion of an applicant's photograph in any section of the application will result in disqualification.
- Please do not submit handwritten documents. Inclusion of handwriting in any section of the application will result in disqualification.
- Individuals providing recommendations will be able to submit their information confidentially through the online application portal once applicants have set up their scholarship profile using the scholarship application submission process.
- Applicants should obtain and submit a copy of their school transcript. At the time of application the transcript may be an unofficial copy. Applicants selected as scholarship recipients will be contacted to provide an official transcript which will be sent to the DAR headquarters.
- Check the listing of scholarships on the DAR website for special requirements for specific scholarships such as financial need information or letters of acceptance for special programs like nursing or medicine. Refer to the specific scholarship links listed online.
- Please direct any specific scholarship-related questions to the National Vice Chair listed with each scholarship on the DAR Scholarship public website.
