Awarded to a PEI high school graduate entering first year who has a strong academic record, a demonstrated financial need, and who is not already on a renewable scholarship. This award is renewable for four years consecutively, provided they maintain full-time registration status and the academic requirements of 75% in first year and 80% in subsequent years.
Background: In 1999, Dr. LeBlanc's colleagues in the Faculty of Science, together with the Alumni Association of the University of Prince Edward Island, created this award through a donation to UPEI to honour Dr. LeBlanc's outstanding contribution to UPEI and to continue his life's work; assisting students achieve their educational goals. Dr. Ninian LeBlanc taught biology to thousands of students during his thirty years as a professor at Prince of Wales College and UPEI. Dr. LeBlanc's personal commitment to his students, and his dedication to establishing a high standard of excellence for PEI's new University, were outstanding. The award will be presented at Deans' Honours & Awards banquet in October to a deserving first-year UPEI student who is a graduate of a Prince Edward Island high school, has a strong academic record, and is not already on a renewable scholarship.
