Lionel High School Chemistry Scholarships

The Lionel Chemistry Scholarship has been established to assist high-achieving high school students who show an interest to study chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering at a postsecondary institution, but who would not be able to attend without significant financial assistance.  Selection is based on achievement in school, interest in chemical-related studies, and financial need. The scholarship is given towards up to 4 years tuition in the program.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this Scholarship, the student must:

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
• Have shown an interest in chemistry-related studies;
• Plan to enroll in a BSc program in chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering at a Canadian
• university, or diploma program at a college or Cégep, within the year of graduation from high school; and
• Demonstrate need for financial assistance;

How to apply

Eligible students should submit the following by March 1 of each year. (If March 1 is a weekend, the deadline reverts to the next working day).

• Letter outlining future goals and plans to achieve them
• Official High School Transcripts
• At least one Letter of Recommendation (high school science teacher/ guidance counsellor or other school official). The letter should include a description of the applicant’s enthusiasm and commitment toward a chemistry-related career, as well as their academic success. If the student has participated in any other science outreach activities a letter of recommendation from the coordinator would be useful. (Canadian Chemistry Contest, Canadian Chemistry Olympiad, National Chemistry Week, etc.)
• Demonstrated need for financial assistance
• Provide names of other scholarships received
• Other documents showing interest or financial need such as reports, abstracts, personal statements, resumes, reference letters may also be included (Optional)
