Headlights for Hope Scholarship

Scholarship Value: $1,000

Awards Available: 1

Award Deadline: Feb 28, 2026

At Clark & Howell, we are very aware of the prevalence of motorcycle accidents across America. Although the state of Maine ranks in the top three for the safest states to drive across the United States, motorcycle accidents in the state saw nearly a triple in fatalities compared to previous years. Similarly, New Hampshire saw a 6% increase in crash fatalities in the year of 2024. We want to help decrease this number, understanding that there are always ways to improve road safety and decrease accident prevalence across the country.

This is why we are proud to introduce the 2026 Headlights for Hope Scholarship. With this scholarship, we aim to raise awareness about motorcycle accidents and generate ideas on how to improve overall road and vehicle safety.

Eligibility

  • The scholarship is open to legal U.S. residents currently living in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia who are enrolled in a vocational program or a two- to four-year post-secondary institution. Eligible applicants include current high school seniors, vocational students, college students, and graduate students.
  • Employees of Clark & Howell, as well as their immediate family members (including parents, children, siblings, and spouses) and anyone residing in the same household (regardless of relationship), are not eligible to enter the competition.
  • Applicants for this scholarship must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be in good academic standing overall.

Application Requirements

  • The candidate must submit a 750-1,000 word essay response to the prompt: What road safety measures do you think could reduce motorcycle accidents and distracted driving on our roads? Have you or someone you know been involved in a motorcycle crash? Share your experiences.
  • Please note that all essays will be checked for AI writing. If AI writing is deemed present in the essay, the application will be denied.
  • The candidate must submit a professional resumé that lists their experience, both professional and academic.
  • The candidate must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school, as well as the most recent official transcript from their prior school. High school students can submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.
  • Preference will be given to students either from or attending secondary school in the state.
