Fostering Education Scholarship

Attorney Chris Jones is passionate about working with South Carolina’s youth and has mentored young people who have gone through the foster care system. Attorney Jones believes strongly in supporting younger generations, especially those in need.

The foster care system has its challenges, but valuable lessons can be learned through those experiences. The Fostering Education Scholarship aims to support any student who has participated in the foster care system and is motivated to pursue their dreams. This scholarship is open to students pursuing higher education at a community college, trade school, or university level.

Students are asked to share their stories, the trials they overcame, the unique relationships they made, and how their childhood shaped them into who they are today.

This is a $2,500 scholarship award. The deadline to apply is October 31, 2025. Continue reading below for more details.

Eligibility

• The scholarship is open to any current high school senior, vocational student, college student, or graduate student. Students must be legal residents of the United States, residing in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia.
• Candidates must enroll in a post-secondary school in the fall of 2025, or be currently enrolled.
• Candidates for this scholarship should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and be in good overall academic standing.

Application Requirements

1. The candidate must submit an essay to the following prompt:
   1. How has did your foster care experience shape you into the person you are today? What advice would you give to your younger self?
2. The candidate must submit a resumé that lists their professional and academic experience.
3. The candidate must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school and the most recent official transcript from their prior school. High school students must also submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.

Attorney Chris Jones will choose the recipient of the Fostering Education Scholarship during the month following the scholarship deadline.

To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates must complete application (including the essay, resumé, and transcript) by October 31, 2025. Any applications sent after this date will not be considered.
