Social Security Disability Advocacy Scholarship

The Social Security Disability Advocacy Scholarship is an opportunity for students who are passionate about improving the Social Security Disability (SSD) system and advocating for individuals who cannot work due to illness or injury. We at Schaffer & Associates recognize the importance of ensuring that SSD benefits remain accessible, efficient, and equitable for those in need. Applicants will explore the role of SSD in supporting disabled individuals and propose innovative, ethical solutions to strengthen the system for future generations. Through a well-researched and compelling essay, students will highlight real-world challenges faced by SSD beneficiaries and present actionable ideas to enhance the program. The most thoughtful and impactful submission will be awarded $1,000 to support their educational journey. We are proud to announce this initiative to support a new generation of advocates for social justice and the disabled community. 

Eligibility

• The Social Security Disability Advocacy Scholarship is open to current high school seniors, vocational students, college students, and graduate students who are legal residents of the United States residing in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in a vocational program or a two- to four-year post-secondary institution.
• Employees of Schaffer & Associates and their immediate family members, including parents, children, siblings, and spouses, as well as individuals residing in the same household, are not eligible for this competition.
• Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and maintain good academic standing at their current institution.

• The candidate must submit a 750 -1,000 word essay response to the prompt: Students will examine the role of Social Security Disability benefits in supporting individuals who are unable to work due to illness or injury. Applicants will articulate how they plan to contribute to the improvement of the Social Security Disability system, ensuring that it is more accessible, efficient, and equitable for all individuals in need. This scholarship will be awarded to the student with the most innovative and ethical approach to advocating for those with disabilities, aiming to strengthen the program for future generations.

• The candidate must submit a professional resumé that lists their experience, both professional and academic.
• The candidate must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school, as well as the most recent official transcript from their prior school. High school students can submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.
• Preference will be given to students either from or attending secondary school in the state.
