Garden Club of Minneapolis Scholarship

Since 1992 the Garden Club of Minneapolis (GCM) has awarded over $105,000.00 in merit based scholarships to students of horticulture. Any Minnesota student who is currently working towards a degree and career in horticulture, landscaping, or a related professional area, is encouraged to apply. Scholarship awards are generally between $1000 and $2000.

GCM awarded four scholarships in 2025

A University of Minnesota Crookston sophomore earning a Horticulture B.S. degree with emphasis on Production and Environmental Landscaping. This student is active in the Horticulture Club and is the houseplant manager at the campus greenhouse.

A freshman attending the University of Minnesota Twin Cities studying Plant Science Breeding Track. Expecting to graduate in 2027. Oversaw the Environment Club in high school and cultivates a home garden.

A freshman at Southwest Minnesota State University enrolled in the Agriculture Education program expecting to graduate in 2028. Worked in Floriculture Career Development Events and enters home garden specimens at the County Fair.

A University of Minnesota Twin Cities student majoring in Plant Science, in the Nursery and Floriculture track, and expecting to graduate in the fall 2026. The student worked several years at a nursery, maintains a home garden and chickens, and hopes to work in the nursery industry after graduation.

CRITERIA OF APPLICATION AND AWARD

1. Student must be a resident of the State of Minnesota

2. Student must be accepted or currently enrolled full-time at an accredited school in Minnesota

3. Student must demonstrate career interest in areas such as gardening and landscaping consistent with the interests of home gardeners

4. Applications must be postmarked no later than April 15, 2026 a Club committee will announce the scholarship recipient(s) in April 2026

5. Finalists may be interviewed at a date and location to be determined

6. Financial data, age, gender, race, or religion will not be considered

INFORMATION REQUIRED

1. Fully completed application form with answers to Questions 1-4.

2. A letter of recommendation from an individual (non-family) with knowledge regarding the applicant’s horticultural experience and goals.

3. A letter of recommendation from a college instructor, administrator, or advisor knowledgeable about the applicant.

4. Name and address of your school’s financial aid officer or administrator.

5. Other information the applicant deems appropriate (optional).
