Foster Children Education Scholarship

The Foster Children Education Foundation Scholarship supports youth who are, or have been, in foster care in the State of Nevada. This includes: a) youth who were never legally adopted or expected to be legally adopted, b) youth who were adopted at or after age 13, and c) youth who were placed with foster families outside the State of Nevada, and adopted at or after age 13.

Applications must include:

• transcript
• essay (max. one page) written by the student that tells the selection committee about your life, your plans for the future, why you chose your program, how your education will impact your life, and how you plan to finance your education
• letter of nomination from a teacher/counselor who knows the student’s goals, life story
• Ward of the Court Letter (to verify time in the foster care system).

The student is eligible to apply for this scholarship if they:

• are a graduating senior, or have obtained a high school diploma
• are, or have been, in foster care in the State of Nevada and a) were never legally adopted or expect to be legally adopted, or b) were adopted at or after age 13, or c) were placed with a family outside the State of Nevada at or after age 13. Preference will be given to applicants who have been in foster care in Washoe County.
• are legal residents of the US
• have significant financial need
• have been accepted into an accredited 2-year or 4-year school, or certificate program at a trade school or vocational school
• are not related to the donors
• agree to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and provide a copy of unofficial transcripts at the end of each semester they are receiving a scholarship

This scholarship has the potential to be renewed with reapplication.
