Thank you for your interest in the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1071 Scholarship Program.
Three $5,000 scholarships will be awarded under this program.
In order to qualify for a VVA Scholarship you must:
Be a child or grandchild of an active-duty U.S. military or 1. U.S. military veteran (living or deceased)
2. Be accepted into an accredited college, trade or technical school
3. Be a graduate of a Colorado high school or a Colorado college student and/or the veteran is a Colorado resident
4. Not be a previous Chapter 1071 Scholarship awardee
5. Write a non AI-assisted essay and make a VVA Chapter 1071 meeting in-person presentation and
6. Submit a completed VVA Chapter 1071 Scholarship Application by January 31, 2026
Regarding your essay, it must not exceed 1,000 words and can be on any one of the following topics with references to the sources of your information. You will get extra credit for interviewing a veteran and including the contents of that interview in your essay. Your personal opinions should be clearly indicated in the content of your essay and essay should be written from your perspective (not that of the veteran). B. If someone in your family is a Vietnam Veteran, explain how that has affected your family.
C. What can be done to address the catastrophe of military veterans committing suicide?
D. What has contributed to the average American’s current perception of the Vietnam War and its veterans?
Preference will be given to descendants of Vietnam Veterans, especially Chapter 1071 members. Applicants may be invited to a personal or video interview with the Scholarship Committee. After any interviews and evaluation of each application, winners will be notified by phone or e-mail. Winners will be required to read their essays at a VVA General Meeting (at 10:00 am, third Saturday of a month in Lakewood CO).
