The Criminal Justice Educators of Texas, CJET, is an occupational organization of TIVA and offers the Criminal Justice Educators of Texas - SEVERO PEREZ Scholarship for seniors who are enrolled in a Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security program of study at a High school in the State of Texas, are graduating from a Texas high school in 2023, and are planning to enter law and public safety career field in the future. The advisor of the scholarship applicant must be a paid member of Criminal Justice Educators of Texas and TIVA. The award and the amount of the Criminal Justice Educators of Texas - SEVERO PEREZ Scholarship is at the discretion of the Criminal Justice Educators of Texas Board of Directors.

INSTRUCTIONS:
- Fully completed scholarship application must be received by 5:00 PM March 1, 2024.
- Complete the PDF scholarship application, print, and scan all supporting documents into one file and send an email to rebeccaartho@herefordisd.net.
- Name the file:
- APPLICANT’S FIRST and LAST NAME - CJET SCHOLARSHIP” (ex: JOE SMITH – CJET SCHOLARSHIP)
- DO NOT leave any line BLANK on the application. Place “N/A” if the question is not answerable. If there are any blanks, the application will not be graded or reviewed.
- Signatures and dates are required on the application.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO SUBMIT FOR REVIEW:
- Three letters of recommendation are required addressing the applicant’s moral character, community involvement, and leadership abilities. None of which can be a family member.
- One letter from the applicant’s Law and Public Safety instructor who is a TIVA/CJET member.
- One letter from a community member whom they have severed as a volunteer, which is not a part of a school or work-based internship, school organization/organization, or CTSO, police explorer post or agency associated with said post, Youth and Government, TXPSTA, TPSA, or other memberships that are directly related or associated with their high school. (Does not work for their school district or a family member.)
- One letter from a personal reference, not a school district employee, family member, or someone who is related to them.
- Letters are to be included (scanned within the scholarship application file, NOT in separate emails.)
- Unofficial High School Transcript
- Must show all coursework from 9th Grade Year until 1st Semester of 12th Grade year.
- Acceptance Letter and proof they will be attending that university/college.
- Scholarship Applicant must write an essay not to exceed 500 words on the prompt:
- Leadership through Servitude: How I will make a difference as a first responder today and an advocate for first responders.
The scholarship(s) will be awarded to students who have been accepted to a university and can show proof they have been accepted to said university.
General Eligibility:
All graduating seniors, who are currently enrolled in law and public safety classes, regardless of race, religion, or gender are eligible for consideration upon submission of a completed scholarship application. Students must have completed a minimum of 3 Law and Public Safety courses and currently be enrolled in law and public safety courses.
Scholarship Award:
Criminal Justice Educators of Texas SEVERO PEREZ Scholarship payment will be sent directly to the student’s school district or will be delivered by a CJET Board of Directors member so they will have a receipt that they received credit for the Criminal Justice Educators of Texas SEVERO PEREZ scholarship. The amount of the Criminal Justice Educators of Texas SEVERO PEREZ scholarship will depend upon funds raised and directed through CJET/TIVA account for the 2023 – 2024 year.
Scholarship Selection Committee:
The selection committee will be comprised of a minimum of two to three members of the CJET/TIVA Board of Directors.
