Maine Art Education Association High School Scholarship

The Maine Art Education Association (MAEA) is a statewide professional organization dedicated to promoting excellence in visual arts education for educators and students across Maine. It supports its members through resources, professional development opportunities, advocacy for arts education, and community events to enhance teaching practices and student learning in the arts. MAEA also fosters student achievement by offering programs like the Annual High School Scholarship to encourage and assist graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary studies in fine arts or related fields.

To enter you must be:

• a high school senior attending a school in Maine
• currently enrolled in a visual arts class
• nominated by a teacher who is a current MAEA member
• pursuing a degree in fine arts or design

Scholarship Award

$500 - $1,500 will be awarded directly to the student upon receipt of proof of the successful completion of the first semester of post-secondary school. The scholarship shall be forfeited if the above criteria is not met within the first year after graduating from a Maine high school.

Typically one award will be presented each year. However, if the scholarship fund allows, an additional award may be issued to a second qualified candidate.

• Current GPA (un-weighted)
• GPA of visual arts classes
• A list of high school arts classes and name of art teacher(s)
• A list of activities, leadership, awards, and/or honors
• A list of community service activities
• A letter of recommendation from your nominator (must be a current MAEA member) that includes evidence of strength in academics and character and evidence of accomplishments
• An artist statement (no more than 500 words) that addresses your artwork: motivation, process, and product, and why you wish to pursue a college degree in art.
• 10 images of your work (can be submitted via email attachments or shared Google Doc folder). Images must be jpegs that are 72dpi, less than 2M in size, and labeled by title. At least two must be from direct observation.
• A .doc or .rtf file to go with your images that states the name/title, media, and dimensions of the original work.
