The Alabama Leaders in Educational Technology (ALET) organization invites graduating seniors to apply for its $10,000 2026 ALET Debbie Rice Memorial Scholarship.
Eligible Applicants:
- The student must be a high school senior enrolled in an accredited Alabama high school.
- The technology director of the school system where the student is enrolled must be a current member of ALET as of 9/30/2025. A list of eligible systems is included in this packet.
- The applicant must have a minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher, using a 4.0 scaleunweighted.
- The applicant must have an ACT score of 17 or higher.
- Applicants must have the endorsement/signature of their Guidance Counselor/Principal on their application, attesting they are qualified to apply for this scholarship.
- The student must plan to attend an accredited college, university, or technical school physically located in the state of Alabama. Full-time online colleges do not qualify.
- The student should be interested in pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a technology-related field.
- The student should be able to demonstrate a history of volunteering and be active in school or non-school extracurricular activities.
How to Apply:
- Review the required materials checklist to ensure your application will be complete. Prepare all the necessary forms and documents and complete the checklist.
- All application packets must be mailed to ALET via U.S. Post Office or other carrier and postmarked before December 5, 2025.
- Unless otherwise indicated, all required materials, including letters of reference, must be in the submitted packet. Exception: Transcripts, see below.
- Incomplete packets will not be considered. Applicants may not add materials to the packet once it is received. (Exception: The transcripts may be sent separately but must be postmarked by December 5, 2025).
What to Include in your Scholarship Application Packet:
- Application form, completed in full
- Signed Statement of Accuracy and Conditions
- Resume - See specific requirements in Checklist
- Essay - See specific requirements in Checklist (Following directions is important. For example, points may be deducted if you respond to the essay questions in the wrong order.)
- Two letters of recommendation:
- Letters must be signed by the author and must also include their printed name, phone number, mailing address, and email address.
- One letter must be from the principal and/or counselor of the student’s high school.
- Letters may not be sent by email.
- High school transcript:
- Transcripts must come from the student’s school but do not need to be official.
- Transcripts may be included in the packet or be emailed directly from the school.
- Transcripts must be emailed or postmarked by December 5, 2025. If by email, send to

- Report Card from 1st grading period of this school year (copy is acceptable)
- ACT score report if it is not listed on school transcript
