The Karen Ann Shopis-Fox Memorial Scholarship is provided for students who are pursuing an education in the field of Landscape Architecture to defray the cost of tuition of their Fall 2024 semester. A minimum of one scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded. Through the generous support of our members and industry sponsors, along with a special contribution from UNILOCK, up to $10,000 is available to be split among qualified applicants.

Scholarship Criteria

  1. Applicant must be a legal resident of the State of Connecticut and be enrolled in an accredited landscape architecture program (undergraduate or graduate). Graduating seniors may apply if they have been accepted into a qualifying graduate program for the following Fall. Prior award recipients may reapply.
  2. Through your college/university, you will provide CTASLA with verification of your student status. Payment will be made directly to the college/university.
  3. All decisions made by the Scholarship Committee (a committee of 3-5 individuals appointed by the CTASLA Executive Committee) are deemed final, including the number of awards conferred and scholarship amount offered to each applicant. Relatives of Connecticut-licensed Landscape Architects and CTASLA members are encouraged to apply.

Procedures /Requirements

To ensure your application is reviewed and processed accurately, please follow these guidelines.

  1. The student must complete the application personally and completely.
  2. Applications must be received no later than 5 PM April 26th, 2024. Selected recipients will be announced by May 17th, 2024. Applications may be emailed as a single, multi-page. PDF attachment (no other file format accepted) to scholarships@ctasla.org or mailed (received prior to the deadline) to: CTASLA Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 209197, New Haven CT 06520.
  3. Attach a transcript of your high school or college grades covering your past semesters up to the semester of submission. The transcript need not be “official.”
  4. Provide a brief statement that clearly states why you desire this financial aid, and why you have chosen Landscape Architecture as your field of study. This statement must be signed by the applicant.
  5. Provide one signed recommendation letter from a person who knows you personally and can explain why you would succeed in this course of study. No other recommendation or endorsement is required.
