Laughlin Trust Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY

An applicant must meet the following qualifications:

1. Desire to pursue a career in mortuary science.
2. Be a resident of Nebraska.
3. Be a graduate of a Nebraska High School.
4. If a student plans to attend a one-year course of mortuary science, a scholarship application should be forwarded to the committee and a personal interview conducted prior to entering an accredited mortuary school. All pre-mortuary academic requirements of the State of Nebraska must be met prior to entering mortuary science college.
5. If a student plans to attend a four-year course of study a scholarship application should be forwarded to the committee and personal interview conducted prior to entering the third year of study. All pre-mortuary academic requirements of the State of Nebraska must be met prior to entering mortuary science college.
6. Be of good moral character.
7. A letter of recommendation from a member of the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association must accompany each application.
8. Submit typed application, high school and college transcripts, and a letter from the credentialing division of the State of Nebraska showing that all pre-mortuary requirements have been met or have a plan for completion prior to entering mortuary school. Applications must be submitted to the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association office by June 15 of each year and will be date stamped when received.
9. Must return to Nebraska after graduation from mortuary school for a period of no less than 3 years. If the applicant leaves the state of Nebraska before the 3-year period is up, the total sum received from the scholarship will be refunded directly to the Laughlin Scholarship Fund.

METHOD OF SELECTION

1. Personal interview by the Scholarship Committee of the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association.
2. Applicant must appear in person before the committee no exceptions.
3. Selection to be made by the Scholarship Committee and approved by the NeFDA Board of Directors by July 31st of each year.

ALLOCATION OF FUNDS

1. Scholarships will be given to use towards any mortuary science classes as long as all pre-mortuary academic requirements of the State of Nebraska have been completed
2. Grants awarded will be based on funds available and the decision of the Committee.
3. If for any reason a recipient of such a scholarship grant should drop out of school that portion of Trust grant money not used is to be returned directly to the Trust.
