Worthington Scholarships

Scholarship Value: $20,000

Awards Available: 50

Award Deadline: Apr 15, 2026

If you’re willing to work towards your future, so are we and we’re ready to give you the tools to succeed.

The Worthington Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to graduates of partnered Maine public high schools who will be attending a participating Maine college or university. Our scholarship is based upon need and merit while generally ensuring representation from a broad cross-section of partner high schools and considering academic interests and life experiences as described in essays. Scholarship amounts can be up to $20,000. Scholars attending a four-year college will receive up to $2,500 per semester. Scholars attending a community college will receive up to $1,500 per semester, with the option to transfer to a four-year institution.

The Application Process

We strive to make our application process as straightforward and easy to complete as possible. Many of the things we’ll need for this application are pieces of information that you will be using elsewhere throughout your college application journey, so you likely will already have them handy.

The first thing we need is for you to file the FAFSA, or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. To be eligible for the scholarship, your SAI must be 30,000 or less.

Next, you’ll just need to be accepted to one of our partnered Maine two- or four-year colleges. For a full list of our partner network, see our eligibility requirements.

You’ll be able to apply for the Worthington Scholarship through our online portal before the application period ends. There will be a few simple questions here to confirm your eligibility, and then you’ll answer some questions about yourself.

Then, you’re done! You will be notified at your high school’s award night or graduation ceremony if you’ve been selected for a Worthington scholarship. All you have to do after this is enroll in your partnered college of choice and meet our semester-by-semester requirements.

Not sure if you’re eligible to apply for the scholarship?

Are You Eligible to be a Worthington Scholar?

The Worthington Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to qualifying Maine high school students pursuing an in-state post-secondary education, whether they are earning certificates, associate’s degrees, or bachelor’s degrees. Find out if you’re eligible below.

Eligibility Guidelines

To be eligible to apply for a Worthington scholarship, you must be a Maine resident and a graduating senior at one of our participating high schools with plans to enroll full-time at one of our partner colleges or universities in the fall after your high school graduation.

To help ensure that these scholarships are accessible to students, we offer different eligibility criteria based on your education plans. Eligible students must have a high school GPA of C- or higher to be considered for a community college scholarship, and a high school GPA of B- or higher to be considered for a four-year college or university scholarship.

Finally, your SAI should be 30,000 or less, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
