Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for consideration for the Scholarship, an entrant (each, an “Entrant”) must be, as of the expiration of the Application Period, either (a) an ASCAP writer member in good standing or (b) a writer who is not affiliated with any performing rights or collective rights management organization.

For a writer member of ASCAP to be in good standing, such writer must have been elected to membership in ASCAP, be eligible to vote at General Meetings of ASCAP, and have not either (a) resigned from membership or (b) delivered an effective notice of intent to resign from membership. The Foundation may, in its sole discretion, disqualify any Entrant if, at any time prior to the awarding of the Prize, such writer is no longer in good standing with ASCAP or becomes affiliated with any performing rights or collective rights management organization (other than ASCAP).

Entrants must also be, at the time of entry: (a) An undergraduate or graduate college or university student of Asian or Pacific Islander descent (b) U.S. citizen (including Hawaii and Puerto Rico), U.S. permanent resident or enrolled student with a valid and current U.S. student visa and (c) at least 18 years of age or the age of majority in the state or country of residence, whichever is older. Further, Entrants must not be currently signed to a “major” publishing, record or administrative deal, as determined by the Foundation in its sole discretion.

If the song submitted as part of the Submission (as defined below) is co-written, all co-writers shall be considered Entrants and must satisfy these eligibility criteria, together with all other requirements set forth in the Rules.

Submission Requirements

Eligible Entrants must follow the below instructions to be considered for the Scholarship.

To be considered for the Scholarship, eligible Entrants must upload and submit the following: (a) an .mp3 file containing the song that the Entrant wishes to be considered for the Scholarship; (b) a PDF lyric sheet for such song with the following format: Title of the song written at the top page and the applicant name should be underneath the song title, stanzas should be labeled with intro, verse, chorus, bridge and so forth as it relates to the submitted song; (lyrics must not contain profanities, vulgarities and/or derogatory language, each as determined by the Foundation in its sole discretion); (c) a completed online application form found here: http://www.ascap.com/aapi (d) a brief explanation about your path as a songwriter and why you are applying for this scholarship accompanied by a short bio; (e) a school letter verifying enrollment. The file size limitation for MP3s and PDFs is 250mb.
