J&Y Law Firm is excited to announce its semi-annual “Defense Against Distracted Driving Scholarship” is now accepting applications for its Spring 2024 scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is to support high school seniors and college students who are committed to servicing their community by pledging to abstain from distracted driving. At J&Y Law Firm, we have seen too many innocent lives taken by distracted driving and we want your help to put a stop to it.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 3,522 deaths and an additional 362,415 people injured caused by distracted driving in 2021. We want you to help come up with ideas to reduce distracted driving and share them with us in a 1,000 to 2,000 word essay. The best essay will receive $1,000 towards their education.

Applications for Spring 2024 begin on March 12, 2024 and end on May 15, 2024 at 5pm PST.

Essay Requirements:

Please write a 1,000 to 2,000-word essay explaining:

  • How has distracted driving affected your life personally?
  • How have you actively abstained from distracted driving? What methods work for you to avoid checking your phone while driving?
  • Have you ever seen your friends participate in distracted driving? What did you do?
  • What are some ways you can teach them the dangers of distracted driving?
  • What things do you think we can do at a societal level to address distracted driving?

Eligibility Criteria & Details:

  • $1,000 will be awarded to one selected participant.
  • You must fill out the form below and submit your 1,000 to 2,000 word essay.
  • The application period will end on May 15, 2024 and a winner will be selected by May 30, 2024.
  • The winner will be notified directly once they have been selected.
  • Scholarship only available to high school seniors and college undergraduates.
  • The recipient must be enrolled in an accredited college or University in California.
  • The student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA (or B average in high school).
  • The recipient must be at least 18 years of age.
  • One application per student.

Judging

  • Enrollment Verification form will be required from the winner’s college.
  • Our highly trained lawyers will review each submission and look for writing that is clear, articulate, and logically organized.
  • The winner will demonstrate an obvious passion for road safety.
