Who is eligible to apply?
To be considered for one of the scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled full-time or part-time at a Canadian college or university for Fall 2025
- Currently pursuing a retail, business, fashion, marketing or any other retail related postsecondary program
- Currently working part-time or full-time within the retail industry.
What do applicants need in order to apply?
- Complete the online application and release form Application form found on RCC’s Application Website - 2025 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION - Retail Council of Canada
- An official transcript from the last two semesters from either a high school or postsecondary institution
- Proof of applicant’s enrollment in a Canadian post-secondary institution. One of the following is acceptable:
- Letter of acceptance or conditional letter of acceptance
- Proof of tuition payment
- Letter from Office of Registrar
- A reference letter (200 words max.) from a current employer that includes the following
- Applicant’s demonstrated and continued commitment to the retail industry
- Ways in which the applicant has distinguished him/herself from other employees
- Reasons indicating why the applicant is deserving of this scholarship
- Current employer/supervisor contact information
- Sustainability in Retail:
- Please upload a typed essay (800-1000 words max) in PDF or MS Word file format, addressing the following statement:
- Sustainability has become an important focus for businesses, with many retailers adopting environmentally friendly practices to meet the growing demand for eco-conscious products and services. As concerns about climate change continue to rise, retailers are taking steps to reduce their environmental impact through strategies such as ethical sourcing, waste reduction, and energy-saving operations. These efforts not only help the environment but also attract consumers who care about sustainability. However, while the benefits of sustainability are clear, retailers face challenges in balancing eco-friendly practices with the need to maintain profitability.
- Evaluate the current impact of sustainability practices in the retail industry and predict their future role in shaping business strategies. Also, consider the challenges retailers face in adopting sustainability, such as higher costs or supply chain difficulties – pick one. (800-1000 words max)
