The National Horticulture Foundation’s scholarship programs continues to establish pathways for qualified students in need of financial support to gain experience and expertise, earn post high school degrees and become active members and leaders in the horticulture or related segments such are landscape professionals, arborists, landscape architecture, research. ​Scholarships are available through the National Horticulture Foundation on an annual basis. Deadline for all applications is  January 15.  A 2.5 (C) or above grade point average is required of all applicants. Award recipients are eligible to reapply for scholarship annually.

James S. Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund

James Davis was the founder and owner of Davis Tree Farm from 1978 until his

death in May 1995. As FNGA member, he actively served his association through committee and trade show activities and dedication to his industry. Scholarship ranges from $500 - $3,000.  Amount awarded varies based individual applications.

To apply, students must be both:

  • Full-time undergraduate student
  • Attending a community college, university or technical institution within the state of Florida

General Application Fund

The general scholarship is provided by generous contributions from industry members to NHF.  Scholarship ranges from $500 - $3,000.  Amount awarded varies based individual applications.

  • Full-time graduate student
  • Undergraduates attending a community college, university or technical institution outside of Florida.

Hoskin/McDougald Scholarship Fund

The Bob Hoskins and Sandy McDougald Scholarship was established by the Palm Beach Chapter of the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA) to commemorate the dedication, enthusiasm and many years of service contributed to the horticultural industry by Bob Hoskin and Sandy McDougald. Numerous industry members have generously supported the fund to help educate each new generation of industry professionals.

​To apply, students must be one of the following:

Must resided within one of the following counties for a minimum of one year: Palm Beach, Broward, Okeechobee, Martin, St. Lucie or Indian River County

FNGLA NE Chapter Scholarship "Billy Barwald Memorial Scholarship"

The Billy Barwald Scholarship was established in 2016 by the Northeast Chapter of the FloridaNursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA) to commemorate Billy’s dedication,enthusiasm and many years of service in the horticultural industry. Billy created and ran Barwald Landscaping for over 60 years and in 1990 he started the Flying Dragon Citrus Nursery with his son, Michael, in Jacksonville Florida.

He also was the third Landscape Architect registered in the State of Florida. Billy was a charter member of the 1953 establishment of the Florida Nursery and Growers Association (now FNGLA) and was elected to the FNGLA’s Hall of Fame in 2010. It is fitting that the Billy Barwald Scholarship invests in a new generation of young professionals to further the horticultural industry for years to come. This scholarship awards one student per year in the amount of $2500.

  • Intended college of choice must be in the state of Florida

Taking Root Scholarship - Arborjet | Ecologel

Taking Root Scholarship is be open to students enrolled in accredited arboriculture or horticulture programs.   Applicants should have a desire to pursue a career in arboriculture or plant health care, with a passion to study science and technology to advance the industry. Ideal candidates should demonstrate prior community engagement and a curiosity to explore plant healthcare needs. This includes but is not limited to the study of plant pathology, entomology, or chemistry related to invasive insect & disease management, arboriculture, urban forestry, horticulture, and landscape architecture. This scholarship awards one student per year in the amount of $2500.

To apply, students must be one of the following:

  • Full-time undergraduate
  • Applicants should have a desire to pursue a career in arboriculture or plant health care
