Procter and Gamble (P&G) and CVS Health, in partnership with UNCF, have developed the Rooted In Science Scholarship Program, presented by Gold Series from Pantene. Gold Series is #RootedInScience to provide superior scalp and hair care because these product lines were co-created by Black scientists, stylists, and dermatologists who understand the unique needs of textured hair. These P&G scientists have made understanding our hair their mission and legacy and want to enable the next generation of science-focused innovators by offering this scholarship.
Eligibility
This scholarship opportunity is open to African American women who are currently enrolled as college sophomores or juniors and will be enrolled full-time as college juniors or seniors in the 2023-2024 academic year. Applicants must be majoring in biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, or mechanical engineering, and have completed a FAFSA and have a demonstrated unmet financial need, as verified by their institution.
Selected recipients who are currently sophomores will receive a $5,000 scholarship in their junior and senior years. Selected recipients who are currently juniors will receive a one-time $10,000 scholarship in their senior year.
Application Requirements
- An official or unofficial current academic transcript.
- A one-page essay (essay prompt is listed in the application).
- One (1) reference form submitted by a faculty member, academic advisor, or professor. Applicants must invite references from the Application Status page.
Selected finalists will be required to submit a video essay describing their interest in STEM, accompanied by a release form, to UNCF in June 2023. Selected award recipients will grant UNCF, P&G and its family of brands, and CVS Health, with the right to use their materials, name, likeness, and content, including video, photographs, and other media, to be used for publicity including, but not limited to, public relations, advertising, social media on P&G and its retailers' owned channels, websites, newsletter articles, and email communications.
