The Pocono Foundation administers several nursing and healthcare scholarships for high school and college students pursing their passion in healthcare.
Scholarships
The R. Dale Hughes Scholarship, Robert A. Gordon Scholarship, and Jennie Cramer Scholarship are all awarded in May. Applicants must be enrolled in the last two years of a nursing program, be in the upper 25% of his/her class and have a 3.2 grade point or above.
Jennie Cramer Nursing Scholarship
Established in 1992 by the Cramer Family to enable LVH-Pocono to recruit outstanding nursing students. Scholarships are awarded each year to two outstanding nursing students entering the final two years of their nursing program.
Robert A. Gordon Nursing Scholarship
The former Pocono Medical Center Board of Directors established the Robert A. Gordon Memorial Nursing Scholarship Endowment in 1991 in recognition of Mr. Gordon's outstanding service as a dedicated board member. A scholarship is awarded each year to a nursing student entering the final two years of their nursing program.
R. Dale Hughes Nursing Scholarship
Mr. Hughes established the R. Dale Hughes Nursing Scholarship Endowment in 1991 to encourage outstanding nursing students to establish a career in nursing at LVH-Pocono. This scholarship is awarded each year to an exemplary nursing student entering the final year of their nursing program.
Requirements
All applicants must be:
- Enrolled in the last two years of an accredited nursing program;
- Ranked in the upper 15 percentile of their classes with a grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.0 scale);
- Reside within LVH-Pocono service area of Monroe, Pike, northern Northampton or northwest Warren Counties (Hughes scholarship is ONLY Monroe County residents)
- Currently work, or express an interest in working for LVH-Pocono as a nurse upon graduation; and
- Submit evidence of current academic standing with the application.
Selection Process
- Applications must be received by March 31st
- The LVHN-Pocono Foundation Scholarship Committee will announce the winner by May 15th.
- The selected students will receive their award check by mail.
- Scholarship recipients are asked to submit a letter of appreciation to the scholarship sponsors.
