The Golden Apple Scholars of New Mexico Program is a teacher preparation program for high school seniors and freshman and sophomore New Mexico college students who have the determination and drive to be highly effective teachers in New Mexico schools. We prepare aspiring teachers for immediate and lasting success in the most challenging teaching environments.
Scholars Receive:
- A robust support network of peers – future New Mexico teachers with whom Scholars build relationships
- Paid summer professional development each summer of an undergraduate experience including:
- Hands-on instruction from award-winning teachers
- Experience teaching and leading in their own communities
- Academic and social-emotional support
- Job placement assistance
- Mentoring from our award-winning teaching faculty
APPLICATION PROCESS:
- Complete online application including personal statements. Optional references can also be submitted.
- Upload Unofficial/Official Transcripts
- Standardized Test Scores (ACT or SAT) – OPTIONAL
- Standardized test scores are optional and not required for acceptance to The Golden Apple Scholars of New Mexico Program. The review committee will closely review the strength of course selection, G.P.A., grade trending, personal statements and overall involvement for students wishing not to submit test scores.
- Home school students are required to submit test scores for application review.
- Participate in prospective Scholar interviews

- Community college students in New Mexico transferring to a 4 year institution
General Requirements:
- U.S. citizen, eligible non-citizen or DACAmented student and resident of New Mexico
- New Mexico High School Senior, New Mexico Partner University Freshman or Sophomore, New Mexico Community College Student
Academic Requirements:
Every application submitted to The Golden Apple Scholars of New Mexico Program receives a holistic review. This means every piece of your application is reviewed and considered in order to make a decision. One single item does not determine your application decision.
Completion Requirements:
- Meet program requirements
- 2.5 GPA
- Participation in Scholar Institutes
- Code of conduct compliance
- Bachelor’s degree from a New Mexico Partner University
- New Mexico teaching certification
- Teach for five years in a partner school within seven years of graduation
ELIGIBLE COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES:
Only institutions of higher education offering teacher education programs in New Mexico are considered eligible colleges and universities for participation in The Golden Apple Scholars of New Mexico Program.
