Environmental Studies/Natural Science Scholarship Program

Four $2000 Scholarships are offered annually:  

The Friends of Volo Bog are offering two scholarships for students Entering College to study environmental or natural science and two scholarships for students Continuing College who are pursuing an environmental or natural science careers.

To be eligible for the Entering College scholarship the applicant must have a permanent Illinois residency and attend high school in Lake, McHenry, Kane, Cook, DuPage, Kendall, or Will Counties, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the first three years, and plan to attend a college or university. The applicant should be planning to enter an environmental or nature related career.

To be eligible for the Continuing College scholarship the applicant must be currently enrolled in college or university pursing an environmental or nature related degree, have a permanent residence in Lake, McHenry, Kane, Cook, DuPage, Kendall, or Will County, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their college studies.

Application MUST be received by March 31st electronically.

​Required Application Packet Contents:

1. ​The Application Form filled out completely;

2. At least one signed letter of recommendation from a non-relative, preferably a faculty member, who has science/natural science background and is familiar with your goals and aptitude;

3. An essay addressing your motivation for choosing an environmental or natural science career, your related experience and attributes, activities related to your career goals and plans, and your educational goals;

4. Official current school transcripts reflecting your GPA of 3.0 or higher. Must be in a school-sealed separate envelope if mailed (Scholarship Committee, FOVB, 28478 W. Brandenburg Rd., Ingleside IL 60041). May also be received at friendsofvolobog@gmail.com directly from the school or through Parchment.

​Forms for Scholarship Application Submissions for Students and Recommendation Letter Submissions will be available here in late December. Application materials are accepted beginning January 1st of each year. Student transcripts need to be sent either directly from the school or through Parchment.
