Scholarship Criteria:

  • The scholarship is for 2L or 3L law students who demonstrate excellence in trial advocacy and intend on pursuing a career in plaintiff’s personal injury law or criminal defense.
  • Student must be a US citizen or a permanent resident;
  • Student must be currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. law school;
  • Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and be a participant in their law school’s trial advocacy program;
  • Student must demonstrate involvement in community activities;
  • Candidates should follow us on social media to stay updated regarding the winner.

Application Requirements:

  • Students must submit an essay between 500-700 words and/or a 1-2 minute video about themselves and why they chose to pursue trial advocacy. Graphic and creative presentations are welcomed. Students should describe their desire to use the legal system to help others and how they plan to achieve their goals.
  • Students must send an unofficial copy of their school transcripts.

Judging and Recognition Procedure:

  • Judging will be completed by a panel of Sloat, Nicholson & Hoover, P.C. attorneys.
  • Judging will be based upon the candidate’s fulfillment of entry criteria and their ability to clearly and concisely convey how they plan to achieve their goals after receiving this scholarship.

Awards and Recognition Procedure:

  • The Sloat, Nicholson & Hoover, P.C. Trial Advocacy Scholarship is a one-time monetary scholarship award and is to be used for academic tuition and expenses only.
  • Once a winner has been selected, the scholarship award will be paid to the winner’s school to be used towards tuition and school expenses.
  • Candidates who are offered a scholarship must agree to the scholarship’s terms and conditions in order to receive the scholarship.
  • Announcements regarding the winners of the scholarship will be posted to The Sloat, Nicholson & Hoover P.C. website and social media accounts.
  • The winning candidate will receive an email verifying that they have been selected to receive this award and must provide instructions for the firm to provide the award to their law school.
  • A small reception may be held for the award-winner if they are in Colorado. More information regarding this reception will be provided after the winners are announced.

Deadline to Apply:

Please submit all required information on or before June 15, 2024. The scholarship award recipient will be announced on or before July 5, 2024.
