The Explore More Scholarship offers students a $10,000 award that can help launch you into an exciting career in STEM. This scholarship is available to new incoming freshmen students. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a strong background in Math, Physics and Chemistry. We stongly encourage qualified individuals from historically underrepresented groups to apply.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Applications are accepted and considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Please complete both PART I and PART II of this form. In PART II, applicants must watch a series of short videos and answer three questions. Additionally, two letters of recommendation and your most recent transcript, either high school or college, are required.
Applications will not be reviewed until all necessary documents are present in the applicant’s file. This application and the necessary supporting documents may be emailed as PDF attachments to mining-info@lists.utah.edu or mailed directly to The Department of Mining Engineering.
Who Can Apply
The Explore More Scholarship is available to new incoming freshman students, resident and nonresident, and transfer students from community colleges who are starting their first semester at the University of Utah.
Applicants must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA on their most recent academic transcript and a strong background in mathematics, physics and chemistry.
Participation in leadership and extracurricular activities is also a consideration.
Award Amount and Number of Awards
Scholarship Recipients are awarded $10,000 ($5,000 per semester). This is a one-time award that does not renew. However, after one year, continuing students who achieve a 3.4 cumulative GPA or higher while following the approved curriculum, are invited to transition into The Browning Scholarship, which awards students $7,500 annnually, by completing the application part only.
Approximately 4 scholarships are available every year to incoming students. Applications are available on-line by clicking on the link provided.

At this time, scholarship applications are accepted and considered on a first-come, first-served basis. The application consists of two parts:

Applicants must watch a series of short videos and answer the three corresponding questions. Each question should be be answered in 300 words or less.
Additionally, two letters of recommendation and your most recent transcript, either high school or college, are required. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please note that the delivery of The Explore More Scholarship award is contingent on being admitted to the University of Utah, declaring Mining Engineering as your major and following the program of study.
EVALUATION & NOTIFICATION
- Priority deadline: December 1. Applicants will be notified of results by January 15.
- Regular deadline: February 15. Applicants will be notified of results by March 30.
- Applications will be evaluated on all aspects of the requested application criteria.
