The scholarship is awarded based upon merit. The HGMS Earth Science/Jewelry Arts Scholarship may be awarded to an individual student only a single time. This does not prevent an individual student from receiving both the HGMS Earth Science/Lapidary Arts Scholarship and the Paleontology Section Scholarship; however, both scholarships cannot be received in the same school year.
