California State Chapter Scholarships

The California State Chapter of P.E.O. provides educational scholarships to California women studying in a variety of fields. Scholarship grants are awarded based on integrity of character, scholastic ability, school/community activities and financial need.

California State P.E.O. Scholarship Application forms are available online beginning September 1, 2021 through January 10, 2022. Completed packets must be submitted no later than January 15, 2022.

Applicants must have permanent California residency status and must be a female who is, or will be at the time of scholarship funding next Fall, a high school graduate (or equivalent) who will be enrolled in a post-secondary school in the U.S. or Canada. Recipients must be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States and must be able to provide proof of such if requested. The scholarship funds are for the academic year beginning with the Fall term, 2022.


1) Dorothy L. Weller P.E.O. Scholarship Fund

A) Awarded to women in the field of law

B) Eligibility: Completion of high school or equivalent credits. California residents who have applied to or are currently pursuing a course of study in the field of law at an accredited college, university or licensed paralegal school

2) Ethel O. Gardner P.E.O. Scholarship Fund and Dorothy Halleck Education Scholarship

A) Eligibility: Junior status or greater

3) Janet Griswold Memorial Scholarship:

A) Eligibility: Any post-secondary level status

4) Ruth G. White P.E.O. Scholarship Fund

A) For women studying in the broad field of graduate medicine

B) Eligibility: California resident having completed her first year of graduate study in the field of medicine

5) Dorothy C. Wisner

A) For women currently enrolled in the United States as an undergraduate in the broad field of medicine

B) Eligibility: California permanent resident, high school graduate, broad field of medicine
