Applications for the 2023 Reflections scholarship are now open. We encourage all applicants to carefully review the program flyer, eligibility criteria, and application requirements before submitting their application.

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is July 15th, 2023. We wish all applicants the best of luck in their pursuit of this scholarship.

Application Steps

Step 1: Please review both the program flyer and FAQ.

Step 2: Download and complete the 2023 Reflections Scholarship Essay form, which includes three short essays: Reflections essay (500-750 words), personal statement on recovery (300-500 words), and a financial need statement (maximum of 300 words).

Step 3: Download the letter of recommendation form and send to a reference. Please ask your referee to email the completed letter of recommendation directly to scholarship@lookingglassbc.com by the application deadline.

Step 4: Download and complete the 2023/2024 budget form.

Step 5: In addition to the forms above, please prepare the following:

  • 2022 Notice of Assessment (see FAQ for details)
  • Verification from a healthcare professional of having received treatment for an eating disorder (see FAQ for details)
  • Verification of student enrolment (copy of acceptance letter or email/letter from Admissions) AND confirmation of full-time studies (*Please see Important Note below regarding full-time status confirmation)

Important Note: All applicants must provide confirmation of full-time studies (3 or more classes) for September 2023; however, we recognize that many students do not register for courses until early to mid-summer. If you have not yet enrolled in courses at the time of submitting your application, you can send a copy of your course schedule to scholarship@lookingglassbc.com separately before the application deadline. Please note that any applicants who fail to provide this verification either as part of your application package or separately will not be considered eligible for the scholarship.

About

The Looking Glass Foundation Scholarship Program awards scholarships to individuals who have received or are currently receiving treatment for an eating disorder, and who are ready for academic pursuit. It is awarded in recognition of someone's strength and courage in facing their eating disorder as well as their enthusiasm and tenacity for their chosen academic path and the career they plan to follow.

Each year, $10,000 is awarded in total, which will be split among recipients. Additionally, one scholarship recipient will receive the Elise Skoglund Bursary of $1,500.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Permanent residents of British Columbia who are:

  • Full-time students (3 or more classes) enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution in Canada, who are commencing or returning to a university or college program starting between September 2023 - January 2024
  • Enrolled in their first undergraduate degree
  • Currently are, or have been, in treatment by a healthcare professional for an eating disorder
  • Demonstrate a strong need for financial assistance in order to achieve their academic goals
  • Previous Looking Glass Scholarship winners are not eligible to re-apply
