Two $2,000 scholarships with up to $250 for each awardee in travel reimbursement, are available to PhD students majoring in metallurgical and/or materials science and engineering with an emphasis on all aspects of superalloys. In addition to the traditional focus areas of alloy development, processing, mechanical behavior, coatings, and environmental effects, studies can also involve technologies that contribute to improving manufacturability, affordability, life prediction, and performance of superalloys; enrolled in a program on classical topics related to superalloys processing/properties. Award recipients must travel to and attend the conference in order to receive the travel funds associated with this award.
Awards are presented in conjunction with the Materials Science and Technology Conference with the exception of years when an International Symposium on Superalloys is held. In those years, awards will be presented at the International Symposium on Superalloys. Award recipients receive a complimentary student registration to attend and receive their award.
Current and previous applicants should participate in the International Symposium on Superalloys conference and Materials Science and Technology Conference by submitting an abstract.
Award recipients are also encouraged to participate in the International Symposium on Superalloys, the TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition, and/or the European Symposium on Superalloys and their Applications.
This scholarship is funded by the TMS Foundation and issued under the generosity of the TMS International Symposium on Superalloys Committee.

Criteria
1. The applicant must be a student member of Material Advantage and/or TMS Graduate Student Program.
2. Applicants must be a current PhD student enrolled full-time in a metallurgical/materials science engineering program at a qualified college or university.
3. Submitted coursework must be relevant to the scholarship for which the student is applying.
4. Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher required.

Please submit online the following documents to complete the scholarship application process. Paper and e-mailed applications and letters will not be accepted.
1. Completed application form.
2. An individual statement describing unique educational experiences (e.g., special projects), career plans, leadership experience, involvement in a Material Advantage chapter, and community involvement. This statement should be no more than 200 words and double-spaced.
3. Curriculum Vitae or Resume.
4. An up-to-date transcript of your academic record.
5. Three (3) testimonials from educators, employees, and/or employers who are familiar with your background
You may apply for up to two TMS-sponsored scholarships per year, however, TMS will only award one scholarship per student per year. If you are selected for more than one scholarship, you will automatically receive the one with the highest value.
