It’s expensive to go to school

Tuition, books, living expenses education can be a big investment. But it’s an investment in your future, and we don’t want the cost to stand in your way. That’s why Prospera provides education grants to post-secondary students every year.

We know the cost of earning a post-secondary education can add up quickly for students. We are here to help by giving over $25,000 to students through our Prospera Education Grants program.

Applications will open on Sunday, March 1, 2026 and close on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Credit Union Foundation of BC Bursary Program

Throughout the year, the Credit Union Foundation of BC Bursary Program disburses awards to deserving post-secondary students in need of financial assistance to complete their course of studies. There are three application periods each year:

Winter: January 1 - February 15

Spring: May 1 - June 15

Fall: September 1 - October 15

You can apply to the Credit Union Foundation of BC Bursary Program if you meet the criteria below:

  • All applicants must have a demonstrated financial need.
  • Proof of enrolment, tuition payment and transcripts are required.
  • A recent letter of reference from a credit union, coach, or other individual that speaks to your community involvement and shared credit union values is required.
  • Applicants must be BC residents who are Canadian Citizens, a permanent resident of Canada or designated as a protected person.
  • Applicants must be in attendance at a public Canadian post-secondary school when the application is submitted.
  • Applicants attending accredited private schools will only be considered if the program is not offered at a public school. Applicants must provide a statement as to why they are not attending a public school and provide a receipt for tuition.
  • Programs of study may be academic, vocational, technical or technological.
  • Graduate and post-graduate students are not eligible.

Post-Secondary Bursary Program

The CUFBC was established in 1958 by BC credit unions to help members access post-secondary education and support systems. We are driven by a vision of a stronger social, economic and environmental future and a desire to encourage cooperation and social responsibility. Our goal is to support students who embody a community-driven mindset, and/or who face additional barriers, so that they can reach their full potential and make meaningful contributions to the well-being of their communities.

Who we serve:

  • Students with financial barriers to accessing or completing their post-secondary education (graduate and post-graduate students are not eligible).
  • Students facing additional barriers (single parents, caregivers, those living with mental or physical health challenges or disability, and others).
  • Students who embody a commitment to cooperative values and a community-driven mindset, and those pursuing social impact/values driven careers.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for consideration for a CUFBC Bursary, you must:

  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Provide proof of enrolment, tuition payment and transcripts.
  • Provide a recent letter of reference from a credit union, coach or other individual that speaks to your community involvement and shared credit union values.
  • Be a BC resident who is a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or designated as a protected person.
  • Be in attendance at a public Canadian post-secondary school/program when the application is submitted.

Application periods:

Bursary period: 

Winter: January 12 - February 15 (due to program updates in 2026, the start date will be delayed from Jan 1 to Jan 12)

Fall: September 1 - October 15

Note: to apply for a CUFBC bursary, you’ll be asked to create an account with Do Some Good, our bursary management platform. Creating a Do Some Good account takes less than a minute. You can choose to log in via social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, or Apple) or simply enter your email address & name and create a password.

Award Process:

  • Applications will be reviewed by an awards committee, taking into consideration financial need, additional barriers, cooperative values and strength of the application. We inform all students about whether their application was successful or not.
  • Payments will be made via e-transfer.
  • Recipients may be eligible for up to two awards per year.

As required by Revenue Canada, a T4A will be issued the following spring for income tax purposes. It is the responsibility of the recipient to advise us of any address changes.
