The individual recommended for the scholarship awards should meet these criteria:
- Any youth that has participated in and has been an active volunteer of the current year in his or her respective local county fair. The selection of these youths will be left to the discretion of the local fair.
- Qualified youth shall be a senior in high school, or in their first year of post-secondary education, but not having reached their 21st birthday by October 1st of the applying year.
- Youth nomination shall be a resident in the county of the nominating fair.
- Application requires an essay, written by the applicant on the subject of What opportunities have opened up to you since participating/volunteering with your county fair.” There is a 500 word maximum for this essay.
- Each application must be accompanied by a one page letter of recommendation from the local fair board.
- One entry per fair.
- There will be six winners from across the state. Two winners from each zone.
- Selection of winners will be by judging conducted by the awards committee prior to the annual meeting.

- Winners will receive a $2,000 Cash Scholarship and a plaque.
- Scholarship may be won only one time.
- It is recommended that the recipients attend the annual business meeting in January to receive their scholarship.
Each county fair (holding events for at least 3 days) may nominate one youth for the scholarship. Based on their completed applications, the scholarship committee will select two youth from each zone to receive the scholarship. Awards will be given at the annual meeting of the Kentucky Fair and Horse Show Association (KAFHS) in January. All applicants will be notified by mail of outcome with winners being contacted by phone/text.

- List any events/classes you entered as a participant at this year’s fair.
- List the responsibilities/duties you have performed from your first year through this year at your county fair.
- Applicant’s Essay: Describe how your personal life skills have been enhanced by your involvement in your local fair activities.500 words
