R Flake Shaw Scholarship

Since 1967, we have awarded more than $3,000,000 in scholarships to youth pursuing a future in the agriculture industry. We believe assisting our industry’s future leaders in obtaining higher education is an investment in the future and is an integral part of fulfilling NC Farm Bureau’s mission.

The R. Flake Shaw Scholarship program awards:

• Eight individual, university-level scholarships granted for a four-year period at $5,000 per year ($20,000 total per student)
• Four individual, community college scholarships granted for a two-year period at $1,000 per year ($2,000 total per student)

ELIGIBILITY

Scholarships are awarded to rising freshmen who demonstrate:

• Intent to pursue a career in agriculture or in an agricultural-related field
• Satisfactory grades
• Understanding of agricultural and/or agribusiness
• Leadership potential

Preference is given to North Carolina Farm Bureau members.

Completed applications are due on or before March 2, 2026. Electronic applications can be accessed at the buttons below. Paper and email applications will not be accepted. You may use the worksheets below to help you gather and organize the necessary information for your application. Worksheets are for your personal use and cannot be submitted in place of a formal electronic application.

Information

• The scholarship is valued at $5,000 per year for four years toward an undergraduate degree, provided the student continues to meet eligibility requirements.
• Eight university scholarships are awarded each year. The recipients will be named after May 14, 2026.
• Preference is given to Farm Bureau members.
• Please note that only information completed in this application will be considered for the scholarship selection process. Additional attachments may be reviewed, but not utilized in final selection decisions.
• Note that this application requires upload of a copy of your transcript and FAFSA Summary.
