This scholarship was established in honor of MES founder, Dick Pierce who passed away in 2011. It was Dick's life-long commitment to promote higher education.

The number and size of the scholarships are determined annually by the MES Foundation Board of Directors.

Scholarships are awarded based on merit and financial need, with the goal of assisting students who might not otherwise continue their post-secondary education without the financial assistance. Scholarships are awarded on a renewable basis for up to 4 years (depending on the grade level of the student). In order to receive the renewable awards, students must earn a minimum of 12 credits per semester and maintain a 2.5 GPA.

Scholarship Details

  • 20 $5,000 renewable scholarships will be awarded
  • Scholarships will be renewable for up to 4 years (depending on the grade level of the student)
  • Online application will be available January 1st - April 1st

Eligibility & Requirements

Recipients must:

  • Be a Maine resident entering 1st year of post-secondary education
  • Intend to enroll or be enrolled in a two (2) or four (4) year degree-granting college or university, which is accredited by the Association of Schools and Colleges
  • Show a strong desire to complete degree program

Awards are made on the basis of:

  • Academic excellence demonstrated by the content of the applicant's transcript, GPA and SAT.
  • Contributions to school, community, and/or work environment
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A personal essay of 300 words or more
