NMASBO Scholarships

NMASBO awards up to six $1,500 scholarships each year to outstanding high school seniors across New Mexico, with at least one recipient selected from each region. Applicants must clearly demonstrate both financial need and a purposeful intent for using the scholarship, as evaluated by the selection committee.

In 2025, the Scholarship Committee will select two recipients from the applicant pool to receive the 16th Annual Joni Heinsohn Memorial Scholarship and the 34th Annual Joey Montaño Memorial Scholarship, each valued at $2,500. These recipients must meet the same eligibility criteria outlined in the scholarship guidelines and application. The committee will award the memorial scholarships to the applicants who best demonstrate both financial need and a clear, purposeful use of the funds.

The NMASBO Board established the Annual Joni Heinsohn Memorial Scholarship to honor Joni’s lasting impact on the association. NMASBO’s success would not have been possible without her dedication and hard work. Each year, the recipient of this scholarship is selected as a reflection of Joni’s unwavering commitment to excellence in everything she pursued.

In 2023, the NMASBO Board established the Annual Joey Montaño Memorial Scholarship to honor the lasting legacy of Joey Montaño, who served as Executive Director from 2003 to 2018. His vision, dedication, and tireless work ethic were instrumental in transforming NMASBO into the thriving organization it is today. When Joey stepped into leadership, the association was sustained by the efforts of a dedicated board and president—each balancing full-time roles as School Business Officers. Under his guidance, NMASBO evolved from a struggling organization into a dynamic, forward-thinking association. Joey’s creativity, resourcefulness, and deep network of connections laid the foundation for the success we now have.

2026 Scholarship Rules

Submission Method: All applications must be submitted online through the Reviewr platform. No other submission methods will be accepted.

Complete Applications: Only complete applications will be considered. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Application Period: The application portal will open on Monday, November 3, and close on Friday December 12. Applications submitted outside this period will not be accepted.
